Fostering for Adoption

This document should be read alongside the Fostering for Adoption: Policy and Procedure of the Regional Adoption Agency, Adoption at Heart in the Fostering Adoption and Permanence section of the Local Practice Guidance.

Some Adoption agencies are also Fostering agencies, and if this is the case, that agency will have also approved the adopters as fosters carer and there is nothing further we need to do (in relation to their approval as a foster carer).

Most Adoption agencies are not Fostering agencies (and this includes Adoption at Heart), so in this case the Reg 25A should have been signed off by a senior manager in Walsall. The date this happens, the Fostering for Adoption carers become foster carers for Walsall Council. Adoption at Heart will undertake the Supervising Social Worker role, although The Fostering (Recruitment & Assessment) Team Manager will allocate a social worker to undertake a one off visit/meeting to go through Walsall Council’s expectations of what we expect of foster carers in Walsall and to complete the finance paperwork etc.
